Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled the post-launch roadmap for their upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC. The game will forgo the traditional battle pass model, focusing instead on rewarding gameplay through account and character leveling. Rewards will be earned through playing, eliminating the need for a monetized progression system.
Concord's first season, "The Tempest," arrives in October, introducing a new playable Freegunner character, a fresh map, additional character variants, and cosmetic items. Weekly cinematic vignettes will enrich the narrative surrounding the Northstar crew. An in-game store, launching alongside Season 1, will offer purely cosmetic enhancements without affecting gameplay balance.
Season 2 is slated for January 2025, signaling Firewalk Studios' commitment to consistent seasonal content updates throughout Concord's first year.
Game director Ryan Ellis emphasizes the game's unique "Crew Builder" system. Players construct teams of five Freegunners, allowing up to three copies of any variant. This encourages diverse team compositions, leveraging the six distinct Freegunner roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden) to achieve strategic advantages and unlock Crew Bonuses. Unlike traditional shooter roles, Concord's Freegunners are designed for high damage output and effective combat, with role distinctions impacting match influence rather than simple archetypes like Tank or Support. The focus remains on rewarding skillful play and strategic team building.
