'I Know It's Not What Everybody Else Is Doing' — Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Will Keep on Putting PlayStation and Nintendo Logos in Microsoft Showcases

Microsoft's evolving multiplatform strategy is evident in its recent Xbox showcases, which now prominently feature PlayStation 5 logos alongside Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass. This marks a significant shift from Microsoft's June 2024 showcase, where PS5 announcements were often delayed or omitted from initial reveals. This change is exemplified by titles like Ninja Gaiden 4, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, all showcasing PS5 availability during the January 2025 Xbox Developer Direct.

PS5 logos were absent from Microsoft's June 2024 showcase.

Conversely, Sony and Nintendo maintain a distinct approach, focusing primarily on their respective platforms in their showcases. Recent State of Play presentations, for instance, omitted any mention of Xbox, even for multiplatform titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. This highlights Sony's continued emphasis on its PlayStation ecosystem.

In an interview with XboxEra, Phil Spencer explained Microsoft's rationale, emphasizing transparency and accessibility. He stated that the goal is to inform players where they can access Microsoft games, prioritizing player reach over platform exclusivity. While acknowledging limitations on closed platforms, Spencer stressed that the focus remains on game availability across various storefronts.

This new transparency suggests future Xbox showcases will likely include PS5 and potentially Nintendo Switch 2 logos alongside Xbox. Therefore, Microsoft's anticipated June 2025 showcase could feature titles like Gears of War: E-Day, Fable, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3, and Call of Duty with accompanying PS5 branding. However, it's unlikely Sony and Nintendo will reciprocate this approach.
