PlayStation Plus subscribers will get five extra days for free

Sony addressed the near-day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, attributing it to an "operational issue" in a social media statement. The company offered no further specifics regarding the cause or preventative measures for future incidents.

To compensate affected users, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions, automatically applied to their accounts.

The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over one-third of players unable to log in and widespread reports of server crashes.

Sony's requirement of a PSN account, even for single-player PC games, has drawn criticism, and this outage underscores those concerns.

While less severe than the major data breach of April 2011 (which resulted in over 20 days of connectivity issues), the recent PSN downtime and Sony's limited communication have left PS5 users dissatisfied.
