Warner Bros. Closes

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the closure remain undisclosed, though it coincides with NetherRealm Studios' recent shuttering of its mobile games division, which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice. This suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

The fate of in-game purchases is currently unclear. NetherRealm and Warner Bros. haven't commented on refunds for purchased currency or customization items, promising further updates soon. Players are advised to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for announcements regarding refunds.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the franchise. Unlike previous entries, it blended action-packed combat with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game's storyline centered on Raiden and the player's team thwarting the fallen Elder God Shinnok's power grab.
