Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map. However, the location remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.
How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria
To unlock the Deep Woods area, you must break the Fire Seal and utilize the new Dragon's Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the entrance in Fields of Mistria. Start by gathering four items for the Priestess' Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be found between floors 50 and 59, while the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.
To obtain the Sealing Scroll from Balor, leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:
- x10 Silver Ingots
- x10 Rubies
- x10 Sapphires
- x10 Emeralds
Once you've met these requirements, speak with Balor again. He'll inform you that the scroll will be available the next day, allowing you to complete the offering.
Breaking magic seals usually results in a message from the mysterious mines Priestess, signaling the unlocking of a new biome. This time, however, the outcome deviates from the norm. The Priestess urgently requests you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears in his human form when you call for help, then retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain strength.
Caldarus then requests that you find him at his temple, gifting you the Dragon's Breath spell. This powerful spell can burn through the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance and other previously inaccessible areas. To use it, equip Dragon's Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the area's entrance. This action will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

How to Find Caldarus
After breaking the Fire Seal, you can find Caldarus inside his temple in the Deep Woods. The temple is located north of the Eastern Road on your map. Access the area using the Dragon's Breath spell. Caldarus' exact location is marked on your map like other NPCs, and you'll find him in the northeast corner of the area.
To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you reach the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.
Once the Deep Woods area is unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the Deep Woods for just 10 Essence. This option saves time compared to traveling on foot or horseback and allows you to visit Caldarus at any time. You can also interact with Caldarus through his statue in spirit.
