Supposed Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Date Revealed by Leaker

Summary

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be officially announced on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
  • The original Nintendo Switch was also revealed on a Thursday back in 2016.

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is poised for an official announcement on January 16, 2025, according to a well-known and generally reliable leaker. This early reveal in 2025 suggests a strong possibility of the console hitting the market in the first half of the year. The Switch successor has been a poorly kept secret, with mass production reportedly starting around late September or early October 2024. Numerous hardware leaks have surfaced online, supporting these claims. Nintendo has promised to announce its next console by March 31, 2025, which marks the end of its current fiscal year.

NateTheHate, a well-known leaker, shared on his January 13 podcast that the Switch 2 will be unveiled on Thursday, January 16, 2025, based on information from unnamed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's tradition of making significant announcements on Thursdays, as seen with the original Switch teaser in 2016. Following NateTheHate's podcast, Tom Warren from The Verge confirmed hearing similar news about the impending reveal.

Nintendo Switch 2 Has Already Leaked on All Fronts

It's uncertain whether Nintendo will follow its past strategy of a small teaser on social media before a full reveal event, as it did with the 2017 Switch. They might share a glimpse of the console and confirm the reveal date a day in advance. However, the upcoming announcement may not surprise avid fans, given the extensive leaks about the console over recent months. The sheer volume of unofficial information has prompted Nintendo to comment on a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgment of product leaks.

The Switch 2 is rumored to be slightly larger than the Switch OLED Model, with dimensions of 270 x 116 x 14mm and an 8-inch LCD screen. Its Joy-Cons are expected to attach magnetically, with the right controller featuring an additional "C" button below the home key. The function of this button is unclear, but it might be related to a rumored mouse-like pointer mode for one of the Joy-Cons.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Game Lineup Is Still a Mystery

While the hardware details of the Switch 2 have been widely speculated upon, the launch game lineup remains largely unknown. RPGs like "My Time at Evershine" and "Bestiario" have been confirmed for the console, but they are not expected to be available at launch if the Switch 2 hits the market in early 2025. Nintendo is likely to bolster the console's initial sales with at least one or two major first-party titles available on day one.
