Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developers of the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, have announced significant price reductions for in-game skins and bundles following immediate player backlash. The price adjustments, implemented mere hours after launch, address widespread criticism regarding the initial cost of cosmetic items.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Game director Lee Horn revealed a 17-25% price reduction across weapons and outfits. The studio issued a statement acknowledging player feedback and committing to these permanent price decreases. Furthermore, players who purchased items before the price adjustment will receive a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

This refund extends to those who purchased Founder's or Supporter packs and subsequently bought additional items. However, the prices of Starter packs, Sponsorships, and Endorsement upgrades remain unchanged.

Mixed Reactions and Steam Reviews

Despite the price adjustments, player reaction remains divided. Spectre Divide currently holds a 49% negative rating on Steam, reflecting the initial negative reception. While some players appreciate the developer's responsiveness, others criticize the late implementation of the price changes and suggest further improvements, such as allowing individual item purchases from bundles. Concerns remain about the game's long-term viability in a competitive free-to-play market. The future success of Spectre Divide hinges on continued developer responsiveness to player feedback and potential further adjustments to its monetization strategy.
