Will Wright, the mastermind behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his innovative AI life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This highly anticipated title, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, promising a deeply personal gaming experience.
A Unique Blend of AI and Personal Memories
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading T1D research organization), offered a glimpse into Proxi's core mechanics. Players input their personal memories as text, and the game’s AI transforms these narratives into animated scenes. These scenes are fully customizable, allowing players to fine-tune the visual representation of their memories using in-game assets.
Each memory, termed a "mem," contributes to the growth of the player's "mind world"—a 3D environment where memories are represented as interconnected hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does the population of Proxies—AI representations of the player's friends and family—creating a dynamic and evolving virtual landscape.
The innovative design allows for flexible arrangement of memories on a timeline, linking them to specific Proxies to recreate the context and participants of each event. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox!
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating "magical connections" with memories, bringing them to life in a unique and engaging way. He explained the game's personal focus, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
