Niko Partners, a video game market research firm, recently published a report covering a lineup of games approved and set to be launched in China. According to the report, 15 video games were approved by China’s National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for import and domestic publication in the country. Among the approved titles include a mobile version of Square Enix's MMO, Final Fantasy XIV, which Tencent is reportedly developing. Aside from this, a Rainbow Six for mobile and PC is expected to be released, along with two games based on Marvel IP (MARVEL SNAP and Marvel Rivals), and a mobile game based on Dynasty Warriors 8.

Last month, reports surfaced indicating that Tencent has been working on a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, though neither Tencent nor Square Enix have announced such endeavors.

The Final Fantasy XIV mobile game is "expected to be a standalone MMORPG separate from the PC game," according to Niko Partners' Daniel Ahmad on his Twitter (X) on August 3, though he noted that this information came from "mostly industry chatter" and has not been officially confirmed.

Tencent is a prominent player in the mobile game gaming scene, and this rumored partnership Square Enix has struck with the Chinese tech conglomerate seems to be part of the company's plans of expanding to multiplatform launches. Early in May, Square Enix said that its new approach will denote "aggressively pursuing a multiplatform strategy" for its flagship titles, such as Final Fantasy.
