Benedict Cumberbatch reveals Doctor Strange's pivotal role in the MCU's future, while confirming his absence from Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview with Variety, Cumberbatch playfully admitted to spoiling some details before elaborating on Doctor Strange's significance in Avengers: Secret Wars, describing his character as "quite central" to the storyline. He further hinted at a third standalone Doctor Strange film in development.

Cumberbatch explained Doctor Strange's omission from Avengers: Doomsday due to a narrative mismatch, stating the character's arc doesn't align with that particular film's plot. This upcoming installment will feature Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and reportedly Chris Evans, though plot details remain scarce. The Russo Brothers are directing, and the film is expected to continue the multiverse storyline, potentially including Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter.

The MCU's Phase 6 commences with The Fantastic Four: First Steps this July. Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. Cumberbatch expressed enthusiasm for the future of Doctor Strange, highlighting the character's depth and potential for further exploration within the rich comic book lore.
