Black Beacon Global Beta: A Hands-On Review of This Gacha Action-RPG
Black Beacon, the gacha action-RPG, recently launched its global beta test. Intrigued? We played the beta to see if it lives up to the hype.
Setting and Story
The game unfolds within the Library of Babel, a setting drawing inspiration from Jorge Luis Borges' short story and the biblical Tower of Babel. This unique blend of literary and religious mythology creates a compelling backdrop, a refreshing change from typical gacha game settings.
You play as The Seer, a character thrust into a mysterious situation, inheriting the weighty responsibility of safeguarding the Library of Babel. Your arrival triggers significant, potentially negative, changes within the Library, setting the stage for a thrilling adventure involving monstrous threats, time travel elements, and a looming celestial danger.
Gameplay
Black Beacon offers a 3D free-roaming experience with adjustable camera perspectives (top-down or free camera). Real-time combat is hack-and-slash focused, rewarding strategic combo chaining and character switching. This tag-team system allows benched characters to regenerate stamina, encouraging dynamic team management without penalty.
Combat demands skillful timing and reading enemy cues, avoiding mindless button-mashing. While straightforward against weaker enemies, tougher opponents require focused attention to avoid being overwhelmed. The diverse roster of characters, each with unique combat styles, ensures engaging and varied gameplay.
Beta Experience
The global beta, accessible via Google Play (Android) and TestFlight (iOS – limited slots), allows players to experience the first five chapters. Pre-registering through the official website rewards you with 10 Development Material Boxes, while Google Play pre-registration offers an exclusive costume for Zero.
While it's early to declare Black Beacon a definitive gacha hit, its intriguing premise, engaging gameplay, and unique setting make it a promising contender.
