CD Projekt Red: Ciri as the protagonist of The Witcher 4 is “organic and logical”

CD Projekt Red confirms Ciri will be the protagonist of The Witcher 4, a decision driven by both narrative progression and the potential inherent in the character. Executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega explains that Geralt's story arc concluded in The Witcher 3, leaving Ciri, a richly developed character in both the books and games, as the natural successor. This allows for fresh creative avenues and a new narrative focus.

Director Sebastian Kalemba highlights Ciri's younger age as a key factor, providing greater flexibility in character development compared to the established Geralt. Discussions regarding this protagonist shift began nearly a decade ago, underscoring CD Projekt Red's long-term vision for Ciri's role. Kalemba anticipates that Ciri's new challenges will fuel an equally compelling storyline.

Voice actor Doug Cockle, the voice of Geralt, supports the change, acknowledging Ciri's considerable potential. While Geralt will feature in The Witcher 4, his role will be secondary, allowing Ciri's perspective to take center stage and create a distinct narrative experience.
