Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) account requirement for some PC ports is changing. Starting after the January 30, 2025 release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC, PSN accounts will become optional for several titles.

Games Affected:

This change affects Marvel's Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025). Note that other PC ports, such as Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn, will still require a PSN account.

Incentives for PSN Users:

While PSN accounts are no longer mandatory, Sony is offering incentives for players who choose to link their accounts: trophies, friend management, and in-game bonuses. These include:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.

Further incentives are planned.

Past Backlash and Considerations:

Sony faced criticism in 2024 for requiring PSN accounts for games like Helldivers 2, leading to its delisting in many countries lacking PSN support. Similar issues arose with God of War Ragnarök's PC port. The limited geographical availability of PSN (70+ countries) remains a concern for players worldwide.

This shift in policy suggests Sony is responding to player feedback, aiming to improve accessibility for PC gamers while still offering benefits for those who utilize their PSN accounts.
