The Chinese Room studio has recently released an exciting new development diary for Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, showcasing fresh gameplay footage. This latest update delves into the thrilling aspect of how the vampire protagonist will navigate the world of hunting in the game.
In the Vampire: The Masquerade universe, maintaining secrecy is paramount. Vampires adhere to the Masquerade, a strict code that keeps their supernatural existence hidden from the mortal world. This principle is integrated into Bloodlines 2 through a dynamic Masquerade meter, which tracks actions that could jeopardize the secrecy of vampire society.
Should a player's actions risk breaching the Masquerade, they'll encounter three distinct levels of violation, each indicated by different colors on an eye icon at the top of the screen:
- Green: A minor breach. Simply hiding is sufficient to mitigate the situation.
- Yellow: Multiple infractions have occurred, or the player has fed or used aggressive powers. At this level, players must manage witnesses or avoid drawing excessive attention from law enforcement.
- Red: The Masquerade is shattered, and the police are in pursuit. The best strategy at this stage is to flee and conceal oneself, as the Camarilla, the vampire governing body, will intervene and deal with the violator, as illustrated in the gameplay clip.
To mitigate their "infamy," players can choose from several strategies: they can erase the memories of witnesses or, more drastically, eliminate them. If the police become involved, the safest approach is often to hide and wait until the situation cools down.
The developers have assured that the risk of exposing the vampire community will escalate as the game progresses. To maintain the Masquerade, players must be swift and strategic in their actions, ensuring the secrecy of their kind remains intact.
