World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil event, mirroring real-world Christmas celebrations, returns with fresh rewards and activities. This year's festivities include new items, collectible drops, and gold.
A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of Winter Veil. The video explores the holiday's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths featuring Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant—and the Tauren's traditions of reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also humorously highlights the commercialization of Winter Veil by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
The Legend of Metzen the Reindeer
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. The video recounts Metzen's infamous kidnappings: first by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current version. The video concludes with a fittingly humorous thank you from Metzen, voiced in Thrall's iconic tone (a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
A Continuing Collaboration
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first official collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore deep dives on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge (for Wrath of the Lich King Classic), World Trees and Blackrock Depths (for modern WoW), and guides for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent collaborations also include Taliesin & Evitel's returning player guides for Dragonflight and Hurricane's cinematic WoW Classic trailers.
Join the Festivities!
Players can still participate in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include the tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer (for Hunters), new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special Winter Veil gift!
