Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide
Progressing through Avowed means facing increasingly formidable foes. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your equipment is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.
Upgrade Locations: Workbenches and Party Camps
Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require various materials depending on the item type and quality. Most materials are readily available through exploration or crafting. However, advancing an item's quality requires progressively rarer Adra.
Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. After locating a Waystone, interact with it to set up a camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and offer fast travel capabilities.
Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels
Equipment in Avowed uses a two-pronged leveling system:

Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower-quality gear is ineffective against higher-level enemies. Using gear of equal or superior quality is essential for optimal damage and defense.

Additional Upgrade Tiers (+0 to +3): Within each Quality level, three additional upgrade tiers exist. While less impactful than quality increases, they still boost stats. All three tiers must be maxed before upgrading to the next Quality.
Strategic Upgrade Prioritization
Avowed features two equipment categories:

Standard Gear: Commonly found as loot or purchased from merchants. These items have a maximum upgrade level of Superb.

Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests, boss drops, or occasionally from merchants. These can reach Legendary quality and possess unique bonuses and perks.
Prioritize upgrading Unique gear. Standard gear serves as a temporary placeholder until better Unique items are acquired. Sell or dismantle standard gear for resources to fuel Unique equipment upgrades.
