Sony's PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures are bringing the popular video game Helldivers 2 to the big screen. This exciting film adaptation was announced at CES 2025 by PlayStation Productions head Asad Qizilbash. While specifics remain under wraps, Qizilbash confirmed the project's commencement, promising fans the spectacle of epic space battles on the silver screen.
Helldivers 2, developed by Arrowhead Studios, is a critically acclaimed shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Starship Troopers. Its phenomenal success is undeniable, achieving the status of PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. The game's popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Further expanding PlayStation's cinematic universe, a Horizon Zero Dawn movie is also in the works, a collaboration between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures – the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation. Qizilbash offered an initial glimpse into this project, stating, “We are in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first cinematic treatment.”
