Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

Rocksteady Studios is preparing for its next major project and has officially begun the search for a Game Director. On February 17, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a job listing for this key role, indicating that the studio is in the early stages of developing a new game. The job description emphasizes the need for a "high-quality game design" that covers core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design. The ideal candidate should possess experience in a variety of genres, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee combat games. This has led to speculation that Rocksteady may be planning to return to the beloved Batman universe, which first brought the studio widespread acclaim.

The Batman: Arkham series, known for its focus on melee combat and exploration, fits well with the job listing's requirements, unlike Rocksteady's most recent release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which emphasizes gunplay. Released on February 2, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League received mixed reviews, scoring 63 out of 100 from critics and 4.2 out of 10 from players on Metacritic.

Given that Rocksteady is still in the early hiring phase, the new game is likely in its conceptual stage. Industry insider Jason Schreier has noted that if Rocksteady proceeds with a new single-player Batman game, fans should not expect it to be released for several years. Earlier rumors have also suggested that Rocksteady might explore a project inspired by the Batman Beyond animated series, further fueling excitement among fans.
