Capcom has unveiled new gameplay footage of their eagerly awaited action game, *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*, set to launch in 2026. The excitement doesn't stop there; we now know that the protagonist of this latest installment in the Onimusha series is none other than the legendary swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.
During the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom treated fans to a fresh trailer showcasing the sword-centric action and formidable adversaries that players can expect in *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*. Although the release is still a couple of years away, the visuals and gameplay mechanics are already generating buzz among gaming enthusiasts.
In *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*, players will step into the shoes of Miyamoto Musashi, a figure renowned for his mastery of the sword. The game not only showcases his unparalleled combat skills but also delves into his roguish and humorous personality. Capcom has chosen to model Musashi's appearance after the iconic Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune, who famously portrayed Musashi in several samurai films.
According to Capcom's press release, *Onimusha: Way of the Sword* is described as a dark fantasy action game set in a historical context, featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. The narrative unfolds in Kyoto, now under siege by an evil force called Malic, which is attempting to summon the denizens of Hell into Japan.
This new addition to the Onimusha series marks the franchise's return after a twenty-year hiatus. To prepare fans for the upcoming game, Capcom has also announced the release of a remastered version of *Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny*, scheduled for May 23, 2025.
