Navigating the vast battlefields of Dynasty Warriors: Origins can be a challenge, especially when you need to reach other officers swiftly to turn the tide of battle. While there's no direct sprint button—your character will naturally transition into a sprint after a few steps—having a horse at your disposal is a game-changer. Not only can you summon your horse anytime during overworld exploration or in the heat of battle, but you can also engage in combat from horseback, perfect for those who favor swift, hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how you can unlock your first horse, level it up, and even switch between different steeds.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Unlocking your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a breeze and comes at no cost. Simply progress through the game until you reach Chapter 1 and complete the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle. After this, as you journey towards the Battle Of Guangzong, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll find him to the northeast of Wan Castle, but before you reach the camp, standing next to his horse. A quick chat with the merchant will result in him gifting you the horse, which will automatically be equipped for your use. To summon your steed and mount it instantly, press down on the left joystick if you're on a console, or hit the 'V' key on your keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is straightforward but rewarding. Your horse earns XP whenever you complete missions or main story battles with it equipped, regardless of whether you actively use it during the battle. Note, however, that your horse won't earn XP from Skirmishes. Missions, marked by a red diamond with a soldier icon, are the medium-length engagements you should focus on. The XP your horse gains is influenced by the battle's duration, how much you ride your horse, and how often you charge into enemies with it. As your horse levels up, it unlocks unique buffs at various intervals, with each horse offering different enhancements.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your first horse is automatically equipped, Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers the chance to acquire and switch between different horses, each with unique perks and speeds. To manage your steeds, navigate to the Battle Preparation menu, where you'll find the horse options as the last item on the left side of the screen. Switching horses can significantly impact your gameplay, so consider the advantages of each new horse you acquire. To obtain new horses, you'll need to maximize the peace level of a region. Once achieved, a reward, including a new horse, will be available at a nearby waypoint.
