Warhorse Studios confirms that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and misinformation suggesting otherwise.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: No DRM Confirmed
Dismissing DRM Rumors
Responding to fan inquiries on Twitch, Warhorse Studios PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling explicitly stated that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM, including Denuvo. He addressed the confusion caused by circulating rumors, emphasizing that the studio never confirmed the use of any DRM system. Stolz-Zwilling appealed to fans to cease inquiries about DRM, stating that any information contradicting the official statement is inaccurate.
The absence of DRM is likely to be welcomed by many gamers concerned about potential performance impacts and negative experiences associated with DRM technologies, particularly Denuvo. While Denuvo serves as anti-piracy software, it has been criticized for causing performance issues in some games. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged the negative perception surrounding the tool, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith-in-training, in medieval Bohemia. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
