Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Guide
Citizen Sleeper 2 begins by offering three distinct character classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. Your optimal choice hinges on your preferred playstyle. Based on a completed playthrough, here's a breakdown of each, considering both abilities and roleplaying potential.
Operator
Operators begin with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is un-levelable. Their unique ability trades Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.
While powerful later, Operators present a steeper early-game challenge. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed success. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator is versatile, adaptable to various character concepts.
Machinist
Machinists start with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and no Endure. Engage is un-levelable. Their ability uses Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress upon a positive outcome. This bonus increases as the game progresses.
My personal favorite, the Machinist's ability proves exceptionally useful in overcoming obstacles. The starting skills are highly relevant, mitigating common skill shortages. The Stress reduction is a significant advantage, given the game's inherent tension. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players drawn to the game's technical and mechanical aspects.
Extractor
Extractors begin with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is un-levelable. Their ability sacrifices Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, with further upgrades available later.
The Extractor's ability is highly effective in mitigating Contract risks by boosting crew performance. The starting Endure bonus is also beneficial, given its frequent use. However, the abundance of crew members skilled in Endure and Engage may lead to redundancy. This class is ideal for players who prefer a more physically robust, "bruiser" character.
This guide offers a comprehensive overview of the three classes in Citizen Sleeper 2, assisting you in making an informed decision.
