The ZEBRA WRITING TABLE app is a delightful and engaging tool designed to help children embark on their journey of learning to read and write in German. As a component of the renowned German textbook ZEBRA by Ernst Klett Verlag, this app can be used both in conjunction with the textbook and independently, making it a versatile learning resource.

This app serves as the perfect introduction to the Zebra App series, tailored for children in years 1 to 4. It offers a structured learning path that includes films, games, and various exercises, all aimed at guiding children through the initial stages of mastering written language. The focus is on phonetically based words, utilizing fundamental vocabulary to practice basic phonetic-letter assignments. The app ensures that children learn in a fun and interactive way, with incorrect entries being automatically corrected after three attempts. This feature allows children to see both the correct word and their own input, helping them to identify and learn from their mistakes, thereby fostering basic orthographic awareness.

To keep the learning experience fresh and engaging, the content of the tutorials changes with each new game, ensuring that repeated practice remains exciting. The app includes child-friendly videos that explain the basics, a clear arrangement of exercises on a learning path, and the ability for self-determined learning. Children are motivated through collecting stars and trophies, and detailed evaluations are provided for teachers and parents to support further learning.

The app is divided into two main areas: SWINGING SYLLABLES AND WRITING, and HEARING SOUNDS. The SWINGING SYLLABLES AND WRITING section introduces children to the writing table and includes exercises such as the "initial-sound-rap," movies like "speak - listen - swing," tasks like "hear and swing," the "ZEBRA writing table game," and movies and tasks related to "writing with the ZEBRA writing table" at both simple and difficult levels. The HEARING SOUNDS section focuses on phonological awareness, which is crucial for learning written language, and includes tasks such as identifying the beginning sound of words, recognizing similar sounding words, and locating sounds within words.

Previously, the four listening tasks in the HEARING SOUNDS section were available as in-app purchases, accessible only through a protected teacher-parent area. However, with the latest update to version 3.3.4, released on October 29, 2024, these in-app purchases have been removed, making all content freely accessible. This update also includes new exercises for sound gestures and technical improvements, enhancing the overall user experience.
