The Witcher 4 will not be among the list of released games for 2026, as confirmed by developer CD Projekt. Dive deeper into the updates and development progress of the game.
The Witcher 4 Will Not Come Out In 2026
No Specific Release Window Yet
Fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in The Witcher series will need to exercise a bit more patience. CD Projekt Red has officially announced that The Witcher 4 will not be hitting the shelves within the next two years.
During the fiscal year 2024 earnings presentation, the studio outlined their financial objectives tied to share-based incentive programs for the upcoming fiscal year. They emphasized that, despite these goals, "The Witcher 4 is not planned for release by the end of 2026."
In the Q&A session that followed, an attendee sought further clarification on this statement. However, CD Projekt Red chose to keep the specific release window under wraps. Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz stated, "We are not ready to announce the precise launch date for the game. What we can share is that the game will not be launched by December 31, 2026, which marks the end of the first target period for our incentive program."
Full Speed Ahead In Production
With this update, fans can better manage their expectations regarding the release of The Witcher 4. However, the game is well underway, having entered "full production" as reported in CD Projekt's Q3 financial update last year. Nielubowicz expressed his confidence in the project, stating, "Of all our projects, Project Polaris/The Witcher 4 is the furthest along, and we're entering the most intensive phase of development. I appreciate the team's hard work and am optimistic about our continued progress."
First announced as Project Polaris in 2022, the game was officially unveiled as The Witcher IV during The Game Awards 2024 with a captivating six-minute cinematic trailer. This installment bids farewell to the iconic protagonist Geralt of Rivia, introducing a matured Ciri, Geralt's adoptive daughter, as the new lead character, continuing the legacy of the Witcher.
CD Projekt has shared on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022 that The Witcher 4 will be the first game in a new trilogy. The subsequent titles, currently referred to as Project Canis Majoris and Project Orion, are expected to be released within a six-year timeframe following The Witcher 4's launch.
