This holiday season update also includes two brand-new characters and four fresh tokens. Marmalade, the developer, aimed to provide a festive gift to Ticket to Ride enthusiasts, adding not only new locations but also innovative mechanics. These country-to-country and city-to-country routes demand a fresh strategic approach, challenging players to adapt their railroad building plans. The expansion caters to both newcomers and seasoned players, fostering dynamic and engaging gameplay.
Country-to-country tickets task players with connecting one country to another specified on the ticket, offering multiple options with varying point values. For example, connecting France could lead to Germany, Italy, or Austria, each providing a different point reward upon completion. Similarly, city-to-country tickets require connecting a city to a designated country. Each country possesses a limited number of nodes, demanding careful planning to secure the most advantageous routes.
Points are awarded based on the highest-scoring completed connection for each ticket. Failure to complete a connection results in a point deduction equivalent to the ticket's lowest value.
