Nintendo Switch 2: Games, Backwards Compatibility, Design, and More!
Nintendo Switch 2 Direct Scheduled for April 2, 2025
After months of speculation and rumors, Nintendo officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 16 with a captivating teaser trailer. The new console retains the beloved hybrid functionality of the original Switch but introduces several enhancements. The design features a larger display and a more robust kickstand. The Joy-Cons now attach magnetically to the console, a significant improvement over the original's rail system. Additionally, the Switch 2 includes an extra USB-C port.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will support both physical and digital games from the original Switch, ensuring backward compatibility. However, they noted that "some titles may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2." More details on this will be available on Nintendo's website in the future. Furthermore, existing Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscriptions will seamlessly transition to the new console.
While no exclusive titles have been officially announced, the teaser hinted at a potential new Mario Kart game, possibly Mario Kart 9. There are also rumors suggesting that Gotham Knights might be coming to the Switch 2, though neither Warner Bros. Games nor Nintendo has confirmed this. More information on upcoming titles will be revealed during the Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Switch 2 on April 2, 2025.
