"Supercell Unveils Boat Game: Surreal Trailer and Closed Alpha Debut"

Authore: ZoeUpdate:Apr 11,2025

After a flurry of releases over the past couple of years, it seems the lull in new games from hit developer Supercell is over. That's because their newest release, Boat Game, has debuted with a surreal trailer and closed alpha. What's it all about? Well, therein lies the question.

It's tempting to look at Boat Game and judge from what little footage we have available to us. It seems to show a mix of seaborne sailing and third-person shooting, akin to something like Fortnite. But the glimpses of surreal imagery suggest there may be a bit more to it than what's apparent on the surface.

Now, I don't expect Boat Game to be some kind of horror launch in disguise or anything like that. But given what we've seen, it'd be nice if that turns out to be something more than marketing fluff. But if it is, then what we've seen so far is still interesting enough, offering a look at a battle royale-style third-person shooter with colourful action.

ytBoats!Seeing Supercell take a chance on the third-person shooter genre is an interesting one, and the mix of land and sea gameplay suggests we might be able to jump between the two or even have two separate modes. I also noted that this is the first release Supercell has solely announced via Bluesky, rather than over on the ol' Twitter.

Again, it's hard not to speculate, since that's always at least part of what a new Supercell launch is about. But hopefully, we'll see Boat Game last a bit longer than some other releases which didn't quite make the cut previously.
