Star Wars: New Era Explored in Marvel's Latest Series

Authore: EmeryUpdate:Feb 22,2025

Marvel Comics' flagship Star Wars series is set for a May 2025 relaunch. The new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy in turmoil.

Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest volume. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.

Segura and Noto's Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, immediately after the final major conflict between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at Jakku. This optimistic new era sees the New Republic striving for galactic dominance. However, Luke and his companions face fresh challenges from opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains exploiting the power vacuum.

"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel ourselves into a new, unexplored era, introducing fresh galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront," Segura explained to StarWars.com. "These narratives will be brimming with action and the character-driven moments Star Wars fans anticipate, presenting unique twists on the familiar galaxy and landscape, ensuring accessibility for new readers with each installment. We're incredibly enthusiastic."

Noto added, "Alex is a phenomenal writer, crafting compelling storylines and new characters for this series, and I'm thrilled to bring them to life! It's also been exciting to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create their new appearances while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the look of this timeline."

Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with that year's Star Wars Day celebrations.

This isn't Marvel's only post-Return of the Jedi comic. February sees the debut of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, exploring Kylo Ren's journey after The Last Jedi.
