Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Release Date Announced

Authore: DavidUpdate:Mar 21,2025

Paramount Pictures has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will zoom onto the big screen on March 19, 2027. Variety reports the release date, giving fans a two-year wait to see the blue blur return to action. No other details about the film have been revealed at this time.

This sequel seems a sure thing, given the massive success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The film raked in $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Sonic film to date. This is particularly impressive considering the initial controversy surrounding the original Sonic design, which underwent significant changes during post-production.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second-highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, continuing the long-standing rivalry between Nintendo and Sega on the silver screen.

PlayThe live-action Sonic franchise has steadily expanded, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric streaming TV spin-off. Based on the popular Sega video game series, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he battles his nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment has introduced more characters from the Sonic universe, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with the latest film finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

While Sonic 3 revealed the next character to join the franchise, we'll keep that a secret for now. For those eager to know, our new characters guide awaits (read at your own risk!). You can also find our Sonic 3 review here.
