Smite 2, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the 2014 third-person action MOBA, Smite, will enter its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the game, which entered its Alpha phase in 2024. Smite 2 promises an array of new modes, Gods, Aspects, and other exciting features, aiming to usher in a new era of gameplay for fans of the series.
Built on the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5, Smite 2 offers a revamped experience, nearly a decade after the original Smite's release. Players can embody legendary figures and Gods from various global pantheons, spanning from Greek to Japanese mythologies. Starting with 14 Gods in the Alpha phase in September, the roster is expected to expand to nearly 50 by the end of January 2025.
The open beta launch on January 14 will allow players to experience firsthand the differences between Smite 2 and its predecessor. Accompanying this launch is the introduction of Aladdin, the inaugural God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon. Aladdin, a Magical Assassin and Jungler, brings unique abilities such as wall-running and the power to trap enemies in his lamp. Additionally, familiar characters like Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni from the original Smite will return, albeit with revamped skillsets.
When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?
- January 14, 2025
A new 3v3 game mode, Joust, will be available during the open beta. Set in an Arthurian-themed environment, players can navigate the map using Teleporters and utilize Stealth Grass for strategic ambushes. This map will also host Duel, a new 1v1 mode. Another exciting feature, Aspects, introduces a fresh gameplay element where players can trade specific aspects of their God's build for powerful boons. For instance, Athena can swap her ally-shielding teleport for a foe-weakening one. During the open beta, 20 of Smite 2's 45 dynamic Gods will feature Aspects, with more planned for future updates.
Smite 2 will also roll out numerous quality-of-life improvements, including Role Guides, helpful messages for new players, PC text chat, enhanced item store, death recaps, and more. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale is scheduled at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19, highlighting the competitive aspect of this new MOBA. Smite 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
