So, you're ready to dive into the surprisingly deep world of fishing in Rune Slayer? Don't worry, we were initially just as confused as you are. But fear not, intrepid angler! We've cracked the code, and we're here to guide you through the surprisingly unintuitive process of catching fish in this MMORPG. (Yes, it really *does* have fishing, proving its MMORPG credentials beyond a shadow of a doubt.)

Before you even think about reeling in that big one, you'll need to start with a quest. Head to the pier where the barracuda are swimming and find Simon the Fisherman (he's the one with the white hair). He'll give you a quest to catch 5 "fish." The quotation marks are important, as you'll soon see.

Now, to catch those "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and some bait. Guess who conveniently sells both? You got it: Simon the Fisherman. Buy a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 worms (we recommend 10, just to be safe). Important note: you don't equip the worms. Just keep them in your inventory. Each successful catch (or even unsuccessful one!) will automatically consume one worm. We found that having at least 5 worms in your inventory is crucial for actually catching anything.
How to catch fish in Rune Slayer

Select your Wood Fishing Rod (you don't equip it, just have it in your hotbar). Hold down M1 to cast your line into the water (the pier by Simon is a great spot). Watch the bobber—when you see one or two ripples, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's not foolproof; you might catch junk more often than actual fish, but Simon counts junk as a catch toward completing the quest.

Once you've caught 5 "fish" (fish or junk!), return to Simon to complete the quest. He'll reward you with a tackle box to store your remaining worms, saving you precious inventory space.
