The eagerly awaited Ratatan gameplay trailer has finally been unveiled, offering fans an exciting glimpse into the game's mechanics and features reminiscent of the beloved Patapon. Showcased during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works provided an official look at the game in action.
The trailer highlights Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, seamlessly integrating rhythm-based gameplay with thrilling side-scrolling action. A standout feature is the inclusion of online co-op mode, allowing up to 4 players to join forces. Players can engage in massive melee battles with up to 100 characters, adding depth and variety to the gameplay experience.
Ratatan is being crafted by the visionary team behind Patapon, including creator Hiroyuki Kotani and original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi. The game's Kickstarter campaign, which kicked off in 2023, has successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring its availability on various gaming platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to updates on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is gearing up for its closed beta, scheduled to start on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's progress and upcoming milestones.
Sakajiri proudly announced that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, the game will not be featured at the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the development team is prioritizing the closed beta. They are committed to delivering an enhanced demo version for the Steam Next Festival in June.
During the closed beta, players can expect to play through Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the month-long test period. Sakajiri emphasized that details about code distribution, start date, and time will be shared via Discord and X once confirmed.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build for this innovative title.
