NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change and is now officially known as Ananta.
First revealed at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the official trailer:
The Meaning Behind the Name Change
While the developers haven't commented on the name change, Ananta, meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirrors the original title, Mugen, which also signifies infinity. This is further supported by the game's Chinese title.
The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but the project's continued development is a welcome relief. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer, however, lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage for some players. Personally, Ananta's visuals are more captivating.
A Mysterious Social Media Overhaul
Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This complete social media reset has left many gamers puzzled.
Ananta's Supernatural Setting
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator confronting paranormal threats. The cast of characters includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
