Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack
Arriving August 9th
Nintendo's Expansion Pack for Nintendo Switch Online welcomes another classic Pokémon title. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team launches on August 9th, enriching the already impressive library of Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis games.
Originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, this roguelike adventure casts players as a human mysteriously transformed into a Pokémon. Players explore dungeons, embark on missions, and unravel the enigma of their transformation. The game's companion title, Blue Rescue Team, was released for the Nintendo DS, and a remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, debuted on the Switch in 2020.
Mainline Pokémon Games Still Sought After by NSO Subscribers
While the Expansion Pack regularly adds new retro titles, the inclusion of only Pokémon spin-offs (like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League) has left some fans wanting more. Many are eager for mainline Pokémon games, such as Pokémon Red and Blue, to join the lineup. Speculation regarding their absence includes potential challenges with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility, NSO infrastructure limitations, and integration with the Pokémon Home app—a factor complicated by Nintendo's partial ownership of the app. One fan theorized that Nintendo is prioritizing secure trading functionality to prevent exploitation.
NSO's Latest Perks: Free Months and Mega Multiplayer Festival
Alongside the PMD announcement, Nintendo is offering a two-month bonus for renewing Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions. As part of the Mega Multiplayer Festival (running until September 8th), purchasing a 12-month subscription from the eShop or My Nintendo Store adds two extra months. Further incentives include bonus Gold Points on game purchases (August 5th-18th) and free multiplayer game trials (August 19th-25th; titles to be revealed later). A Mega Multiplayer game sale follows from August 26th to September 8th, 2024.
