PlayStation Unveils Plans for Smash-Like Exclusive

PlayStation's new studio is developing a MOBA codenamed "Gummy Bears," a project originally started at Bungie. This unique game, reportedly in development since at least 2020, is expected to target a younger audience than Bungie's previous titles.

Instead of traditional health bars, Gummy Bears will utilize a percentage-based damage system similar to Super Smash Bros., influencing knockback distance and ultimately leading to characters being knocked off the map. The game will feature three character classes – Attack, Defense, and Support – along with multiple game modes. Its visual style is described as cozy, vibrant, and "lo-fi," a significant departure from Bungie's established aesthetic.

The project transferred to a new, approximately 40-person PlayStation studio following Bungie's 2023 layoffs and subsequent staff integration into Sony Interactive Entertainment. While the release date remains unknown, the game's development is ongoing, suggesting a potential launch several years in the future.
