Pirate Software Removed from Top WoW Guild

Summary

  • World of Warcraft streamer Pirate Software was expelled from the OnlyFangs guild following a disastrous Dire Maul North run resulting in Hardcore character deaths.
  • Pirate Software's refusal to accept responsibility for the deaths prompted Guild Master Sodapoppin to remove him.

Pirate Software's dismissal from the prominent World of Warcraft streaming guild, OnlyFangs, stems from a failed Dire Maul North run in the recently introduced World of Warcraft Anniversary servers. The addition of Dire Maul to these servers has already contributed to several OnlyFangs Hardcore character deaths.

Prior to Blizzard's official launch of Hardcore servers for Classic WoW in August 2023 (which initially saw a decline in popularity until the November 2024 Anniversary server release), players self-imposed zero-death rules. The Anniversary servers revitalized World of Warcraft Classic, significantly impacting the population of the original Classic servers. Numerous Hardcore players have perished since the Anniversary servers launched, while others have achieved level 60 within the Hardcore limitations. Sara and Snupy are among the recent casualties, and their deaths led to Pirate Software's banishment by Sodapoppin.

Social media posts confirm Sodapoppin's decision, detailed in a Discord statement. The statement cites widespread guild discomfort following the deaths of two members during the Dire Maul North run. The incident unfolded when the OnlyFangs group pulled a boss prematurely, triggering a pack of Gordok ogres. Despite a party member urging a retreat and reset, Pirate Software abandoned the group during the escape, contributing to the deaths of Sara and Snupy. While normally permissible under OnlyFangs rules, Pirate Software's refusal to acknowledge his role in the incident sealed his fate. (A video documenting the event contains strong language).

Why Pirate Software's Expulsion from OnlyFangs?

The primary criticism centers on Pirate Software's unwillingness to accept responsibility. Sodapoppin, during a run review, highlighted Pirate Software's failure to utilize crowd control, specifically Blizzard rank 1, to mitigate the threat without excessive mana expenditure. Mizkif and other OnlyFangs members also allege that Pirate Software issued threats to fellow streamers after the incident. Pirate Software responded to his expulsion on Twitter, expressing dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled.

OnlyFangs has experienced several member departures since its recreation on the Anniversary server Doomhowl, potentially leading to the formation of new groups. With Blizzard's ongoing updates to World of Warcraft Classic, including Vanilla-accurate patches, further OnlyFangs Hardcore deaths are anticipated as new dungeons and raids are added.
