Authore: CharlotteUpdate:Apr 20,2025

During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, a select few games will receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, boasting exclusive features and upgrades. Titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree are among those receiving special treatment.

Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game offers unique enhancements tailored to the game. Super Mario Party: Jamboree introduces "Jamboree TV", which includes innovative features like mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback, and new gameplay mechanics utilizing a camera accessory.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive improved resolution, higher framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, a new service called Zelda Notes will be available through the Nintendo Switch Online app, offering voice guidance to locate Shrines and Koroks, along with the ability to share creations from Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will feature a new exclusive story titled Star-Crossed World, in addition to enhanced graphics and framerates.

New releases, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, will also see upgrades, with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond supporting mouse controls and boasting 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will offer improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original versions on the Nintendo Switch can purchase upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

The Direct also highlighted several third-party titles receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.

The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was hinted at last week with a footnote on a webpage related to the new Virtual Game Card system, noting that these editions cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch.
