Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks emerging from CES 2025, Nintendo has issued a statement clarifying that the circulating images are not official. This marks a rare public response from Nintendo regarding product leaks. The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby dismissing any Switch 2 imagery from the event as legitimate promotional material.
The Switch 2 has been subject to numerous leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. One notable leak involved accessory manufacturer Genki, who displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES. Images of this replica quickly spread online.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply stated that the images of Genki's replica are "not official." While this confirms the unofficial nature of the images, it doesn't address the accuracy of the replica itself.
Genki's Switch 2 Replica: Accurate or Not?
Despite Nintendo's lack of comment on the replica's accuracy, the device aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is the addition of a new button, labeled "C," below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also mentioned that the Joy-Cons will reportedly use magnetic attachment and function as a mouse, claims consistent with other reports.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, the company still has time to fulfill this promise. A retail release is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
