Netflix Cancels Stories, Yet Playable

Netflix has decided to close the chapter on its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief foray into narrative gaming. This move comes as a surprise, especially since the games boasted a dedicated player base. So, why did Netflix pull the plug on Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details!

The announcement, initially reported by Variety, is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. The company is now steering its focus towards mobile titles that cater to party games, games for kids, mainstream releases, and other interactive experiences that can also be enjoyed on TV.

Boss Fight Entertainment, the creative force behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue their collaboration with Netflix on other projects, such as the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.

Netflix Stories Gets Cancelled: What's Next?

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Netflix Stories consistently held a strong position in the Netflix Games top 10, ranking fourth based on playtime, which is a key metric used by Netflix instead of just downloads.

Looking ahead, the final interactive title under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once this game rolls out, the development of new Netflix Stories games will cease. This decision comes hot on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next title, The Love Contract, scheduled for an April 8th release. Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP but was an original romance story involving an actress navigating a complex love triangle with a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been cancelled.

While no new titles will be developed, the existing Netflix Stories games will remain accessible. Fans can still enjoy titles like Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels such as those for Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been axed.

That's the full story on the cancellation of Netflix Stories! If you're a fan of Netflix shows and want to experience these interactive games, you can find them on the Google Play Store.
