Tidepool Games has just released a thrilling new game for Android enthusiasts: MageTrain, a fast-paced pixel art 'snakelike' roguelike that echoes the charm of Nimble Quest. Drawing heavy inspiration from its predecessor, MageTrain offers a fresh take on the genre that's sure to captivate players.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into an exciting mix. As you navigate your heroes in a snakelike formation through various arenas, each hero autonomously attacks enemies. Your role? Strategically position your heroes to maximize their effectiveness and avoid collisions with foes or obstacles. The hero's position in the train—whether leading or following—impacts their abilities, adding a layer of tactical depth to your gameplay.
At launch, MageTrain boasts nine unique heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds. Each hero brings distinct skills that vary based on their position within the team. As you progress, you'll explore eight diverse dungeons, battle 28 different enemy types, and harness 30 skills to bolster your team. Collect gold and power-ups to enhance your chances of survival.
The roguelike nature of MageTrain ensures that no two runs are the same. You'll navigate through branching paths, make critical upgrade choices, and strive to last as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and progress isn't saved for later—you start anew each time you fail, whether from a misstep or enemy onslaught.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The joy of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even after a loss. You'll quickly learn when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Dive into the action by downloading it from the Google Play Store today.
