A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A decaying knight statue, its armor consumed by real mushrooms, has materialized in London—a chilling testament to the Dreamscourge plaguing the world of Avowed. This striking installation, courtesy of Xbox, serves as both public art and ominous foreshadowing, immersing onlookers in the game's grim reality. Accompanying posters advertising Avowed on Xbox Series X|S complete the immersive street scene, transforming a London street into a portal to Avowed's world.

Xbox has released a behind-the-scenes YouTube video documenting the creation of this unsettling promotional piece, offering fans a closer look at its construction.

Meanwhile, Avowed has garnered significant praise from Steam users, boasting an 81% positive recommendation rate among Deluxe Edition players before launch. This pre-release enthusiasm sets a high bar as the Standard Edition launches today.

Gaming journalist Jason Schreier shared his own positive experience: "Avowed has me hooked. Obsidian’s storytelling and combat were expectedly strong, but it’s the world’s design that stands out. Every pathway leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and there’s always a hidden detail waiting to be found. Even after 40 hours, I keep coming back."

However, Schreier also noted a disparity between critical reception and player enthusiasm, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas: "Some of the reviews surprise me. It’s the same situation as Fallout: New Vegas—critics were split, but players turned it into a legend. Avowed could follow a similar trajectory."

Fallout: New Vegas, despite an initial Metacritic score of 83, has since achieved legendary status. Could Avowed be destined for a similar rise to RPG greatness?
