KartRider: Drift to Exit Global Stage

Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. The closure affects all global platforms, but thankfully, the Asian (Taiwan and South Korea) servers will remain operational, albeit with upcoming changes. Nexon hasn't revealed specifics about these changes or the possibility of a future global relaunch.

Asian Servers Remain

The shutdown does not include the Asian versions of the game. While Nexon is planning updates for the Asian servers, details are currently unavailable.

Global Shutdown Timing

The exact date of the global shutdown hasn't been announced. The game is still available on the Google Play Store, providing players with a window to enjoy it before the servers go offline later this year.

Reasons for Shutdown

Despite efforts to provide a smooth global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustration with the game's heavy automation, leading to a repetitive gameplay loop. Technical issues, including optimization problems on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's success. These factors prompted Nexon to refocus its efforts on the PC versions in Korea and Taiwan, aiming for a more faithful implementation of the original game's vision.
