Jason Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make a thrilling transition into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) as the notorious alien bounty hunter Lobo. Scheduled to appear in the 2026 film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Momoa's portrayal of Lobo promises to bring fans an exciting glimpse of the character. Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983. Hailing from the now-defunct planet Czarnia, Lobo is the last of his kind, much like Superman, and possesses superhuman strength and immortality.

Momoa, who has expressed a long-standing admiration for Lobo, citing the character as his favorite from comic books, is particularly excited about this role. In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa shared his enthusiasm and a bit about what fans can expect. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa stated. "That's the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It's kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he's pretty rough and gruff and... I'll say the bike's really cool."

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

Despite his excitement, Momoa clarified that Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be brief. "It's her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he said, emphasizing that the film primarily focuses on Supergirl.

Play

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, announcing the start of filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film, set to release in June 2026, draws heavily from the graphic novel by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. This standalone story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts will portray Krem, while Eve Ridley will play Ruthye. Other cast members include David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Supergirl's father, and Emily Beecham as her mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow marks the second installment in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman slated for this summer. Another anticipated release, the DCU Clayface movie, is set to hit theaters in September 2026.
