The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with a unique pricing strategy that varies between Japan and the rest of the world. This new gaming console will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, exclusively available in Japan, and a Multi-Language System for global markets.
Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions
In Japan, the Nintendo Switch 2's Japanese-language version will be priced at approximately $330. In contrast, the Multi-Language System version, designed for worldwide use, will be priced at $449.99—a difference of over $100. This price variation is largely due to the weakened yen compared to the USD, which impacts the cost for tourists purchasing in Japan.
Residents of Japan can choose between both versions, but the Japanese-language system will be exclusively sold in Japan. Only Nintendo Accounts set to Japan can link to this version, and it will support only the Japanese language. The available software on the Nintendo eShop for this version will be limited to titles designated for the Japanese region.
For fans looking to use the Switch 2 in languages other than Japanese, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.
Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store
To acquire the Nintendo Switch 2, customers will need to participate in a lottery system through the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, various retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries from April 24, based on stock availability. To enter the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- As of February 28, 2025, you must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
- At the time of application, you must have a cumulative subscription period of at least one year to Nintendo Switch Online and be an active subscriber.
More information regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
