Diablo 4 players may be able to obtain Frostmourne, the iconic weapon of the Lich King in World of Warcraft, once Season 5 begins. Models resembling this terrifying blade were discovered on the Season 5 Public Test Realm, suggesting fans might be able to obtain them in the next Diablo 4 update.
From now until July 2, Diablo 4 is holding its second PTR run for Season 5. The upcoming update is currently expected to arrive in August, and will add new challenges, items, and questlines to keep players occupied until Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred launches on October 8.
However, Diablo 4 fans may be able to pick up a certain legendary sword from World of Warcraft in the next season. While checking out the Diablo 4 Season 5 PTR servers, Wowhead uncovered two new models that bear a striking resemblance to Frostmourne, the blade of the Lich King in World of Warcraft. The exact purpose of these items is currently a mystery, as it could be a cash shop cosmetic, a Legendary weapon, or something else entirely, but it seems likely that players will be able to wield Frostmourne in Diablo 4 soon – and with two models, possibly in both a one- and two-handed version.
Frostmourne in Diablo 4 Season 5
Frostmourne is one of the most iconic weapons in Warcraft lore. The fell blade led Prince Arthas down the road to damnation, where he eventually wielded it as the Lich King. The blade was destroyed during Wrath of the Lich King, but later reforged into the Blades of the Fallen Prince by Frost Death Knights in Legion. Ironically, there is no way to wield Frostmourne directly in World of Warcraft itself, meaning Diablo 4 could be the first place where players could do so.
This isn’t the first time the Lich King’s armaments have appeared in Diablo 4. In October 2023, Diablo 4 offered the Invincible Aspect mount cosmetics in the cash shop. This allowed fans to transform their mount into Invincible, one of the rarest mounts in WoW, and equip them with a replica of Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination. However, if this new weapon is added, players might actually be able to wield the sword, rather than just display it as a trophy.
Season 5 of Diablo 4 is expanding the types of weapons certain classes are able to wield, with Druids able to use polearms, one-handed swords, and daggers, Necromancers getting maces and axes, and Sorcerers unlocking one-handed swords and maces. If Frostmourne does become available as a one-handed sword, every current class in Diablo 4 will be able to use it.
