Reaching max level in Rune Slayer often leads adventurers to the formidable Hill Troll—a prime target for experience and early endgame loot. But finding this behemoth requires a bit of know-how. This guide reveals the Hill Troll's location and offers strategies for conquering this challenging foe.
Hill Troll Location in Rune Slayer
The Hill Troll resides within a hidden cave nestled in the mountainside of Bahlgar. The easiest access point is via the Lakeshire elevator. Descend to Bahlgar as you would to fight Beastmen, but instead of jumping down to the Beastmen area, follow the mountain's wall. Pass two platinum deposits, then scan the mountain's side for a cave entrance. This opening requires a jump (ideally while mounted) to reach. While it might seem tricky initially, it becomes routine with practice. See our GIF for a visual guide—we even joined a group battle!

Hill Troll – Strategy, Loot, and Quests
Despite its intimidating appearance, the Hill Troll is a relatively manageable mini-boss, though you'll likely face it repeatedly.

Solo attempts are strongly discouraged. Team up (at least two players) for a safer and more efficient fight. Many players farm the Troll, making group encounters common. Its 90-second respawn time allows for frequent battles. The Troll attacks with a slow but powerful pillar. Most attacks are parryable or blockable, except for a double-handed overhead swing—run from this stun attack! Consistent damage can stagger the Troll. Warrior class players can effectively stun it with a well-timed Counter.
While rare equipment drops are possible, focus on farming Troll Hides and Troll Heads. Hides are crucial for crafting decent endgame equipment, sufficient for facing stronger bosses like the Mother Spider. The Troll Head is a quest item for the repeatable Hodor Quest. Hourly, you can trade a Troll Head to Hodor (near the cave) for a chance at powerful gear.

Can You Tame the Hill Troll in Rune Slayer?
No. Even for Beast Tamer Archers, taming the Hill Troll is impossible. Its size and the impracticality of a cave-dwelling pet make it unsuitable. Stick to your trusty Mud Crab.
