The Show is Not Cancelled

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulRecent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have exited the God of War TV series adaptation. Despite reportedly completing multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

Key figures remaining on board include Santa Monica Studio's Creative Director Cory Barlog (executive producer), PlayStation Productions' Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan, Vertigo's Roy Lee, and Santa Monica Studio's Yumi Yang. Amazon and Sony will now search for a new showrunner, producers, and writers to redefine the series' direction. Crucially, the project remains uncancelled.

Future Plans Despite Setbacks

God of War TV Series' Creative Team Undergoes OverhaulThe Amazon and Sony partnership for the God of War adaptation was announced in 2022 on a PlayStation podcast, building on the success of the 2018 game reboot. This initiative reflects Sony's broader strategy to adapt its successful video game franchises into film and television. This led to the formation of PlayStation Productions in 2019. The announcement also included a Netflix adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, with more adaptations of popular franchises to follow.

Successful adaptations already released include Uncharted (2022), the critically acclaimed The Last of Us (2023, with season two slated for 2025), Gran Turismo (2023), and Twisted Metal (2024). Further projects in development include Gravity Rush, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, and the Until Dawn film (scheduled for release on April 25, 2025).
