In *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*'s main quest, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," you'll need to brew a Fever Tonic to help Hans. This involves a bit of sneaking, persuasion, or both, to access the necessary ingredients and brewing station within Trosky Castle.

The Fever Tonic recipe resides in the Surgeon's Workshop, located within Trosky Castle. Access is gained in one of two ways: You can sneak into the workshop, or employ your persuasion skills. To convince the Chamberlain, offer to create a digestive potion for his stomach ailment. Success grants you access to the workshop.

Alternatively, after delivering the horseshoe in "For Whom the Bell Tolls," speak with Cook Fanka at the forge. Offer to help her with a locked chest; she'll lead you to the noble's kitchen. Here, you'll find the ailing Chamberlain. Successfully navigating skill checks during conversation will also unlock the Surgeon's Workshop. Crafting a digestive potion alongside the Fever Tonic further solidifies your access and allows you to meet Thomas.

Should your persuasion attempts fail, steal some food, exit the kitchen, and use the stairs leading to another kitchen door (guarded). Bribe the guard with the stolen food. Once he leaves, sneak upstairs to the Surgeon's Workshop. Here, you’ll find the Physician's Journal on a bookshelf. Read it to obtain the recipe.

How to Brew Fever Tonic

The required herbs are conveniently located at the surgeon's station. Follow these steps:

1. Pour wine into the cauldron.
2. Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
3. Lower the cauldron and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
4. Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves using the mortar and pestle.
5. Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
6. Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
7. Take a phial from the bottom left shelf.
8. Distill the tonic using the Still.

Don't fret if your first attempt fails; ample herbs are available, with more in the room's chest.

After brewing the Fever Tonic, locate Thomas. If you gained the Chamberlain's trust by providing the digestive potion, return to him with both potions. Otherwise, use the noble's kitchen to discreetly reach the chapel and find Thomas and his sister, Adele. Speak with Adele to complete the quest.
