"Explore Assassin’s Creed Shadows' Open World: When?"

Authore: EllieUpdate:Apr 09,2025

Assassin’s Creed Shadows invites players into an expansive open world set in Feudal Japan, but the freedom to roam doesn't come immediately. Here’s when you can start exploring the open world in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

How Long is the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Prologue? Answered

Ubisoft has a reputation for crafting expansive open worlds, but their games often start with lengthy introductions. Fortunately, Assassin’s Creed Shadows doesn't keep players waiting as long as some previous entries before diving into the world of Japan.

The game begins with a prologue that sets the stage for the narrative and introduces the dual protagonists, Yasuke and Naoe. This opening segment delves into the lives of the Samurai and Shinobi, showcasing Iga, Naoe's homeland, and initiating her journey beyond its borders. Expect to spend around an hour and a half navigating through this prologue, filled with cinematic set pieces and crucial dialogue.

Once you complete the "From Spark to Flame" Quest and establish your Kakurega (Hideout) at Tomiko’s Homestead, the open world becomes yours to explore.

Can You Go Anywhere in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Right Away? Answered

After finishing the prologue, you'll find yourself in Izumi Settsu, one of the nine regions available for exploration at launch. Initially, quests and activities will focus on this area before expanding to the Yamashiro province.

While the game's narrative sometimes requires Naoe and Yasuke to stay in specific locations, you can generally venture into other provinces. However, two factors might deter you from doing so prematurely.

Firstly, the availability of quests and activities in other regions is tied to story progression. Heading to these regions too early might not offer much to do. Secondly, Assassin’s Creed Shadows includes RPG elements where players need to reach certain levels to be effective in combat in different provinces. You can check these level requirements on the map; regions marked with a number in a red diamond indicate that you're significantly under-leveled, suggesting a challenging or even fatal experience if you enter too soon.

In summary, while you can technically travel to higher-level regions early on, it's not advisable and might lead to a frustrating experience.
