Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC features some truly frightening enemies. A recent datamine, however, has unveiled the surprisingly detailed character models hidden beneath their intimidating armor, revealing unexpected nuances and design choices. While some models are relatively simple, others showcase fascinating details that deepen the game's already rich lore.
The intricate lore of Elden Ring, a hallmark of the Soulsborne series, is a major draw for players. Much of this lore is revealed through environmental storytelling and item descriptions, leaving much to be interpreted by players and dataminers alike. Previous datamines uncovered details about the Divine Beast Dancing Lion boss. This latest video, by YouTuber and Soulsborne dataminer Zullie the Witch, takes a deeper dive into several other characters from the expansion.
The video showcases the unarmored NPCs, highlighting FromSoftware's dedication to character design, even in elements unseen during normal gameplay. The revealed appearances have captivated fans, with many praising the accuracy of Moore's appearance, matching player expectations.
Detailed NPC Models Impress Elden Ring Fans
Redmane Freyja's model, for example, displays scarring consistent with Scarlet Rot infection, a detail perfectly aligned with her in-game story. Similarly, Tanith from Volcano Manor bears a striking resemblance to the Dancer of Ranah, a fitting parallel given Tanith's past.
However, some surprises emerged. Hornsent, despite the name, lacks horns in the model. The dataminer suggests this omission was likely due to the need for a completely new character model. Fans have noted that this omission contrasts with the new hairstyle options added in the DLC, and suggest that horn customization should have been included as well.
